I'll Take The Memories

I'll Take The Memories
by: Barbara C. Floyd

With everything I've done and all that I've been thru,
It's the memories that keep me going....
The memories of you.

You came into my life years after we'd actually met.
Filling it with so much joy;
so many memories that I choose not to forget.

We were only friends, though in my heart you were more.
But my mind was the only place keeping score.

No one has ever brought laughter to my life, the way that you easily did,
even thru all the pain you felt, we laughed as you kept the pain hid.

How many nights did we spend, never touching, just laughing and watching tv?
You have no idea how much that meant to me.

A movie isn't even a movie to me anymore....
Memories of you fill my mind, as I look at the big movie board.

Games of pool, a good cold beer, a frozen pizza cooked in a motorhome,
only a few memories of us that are special,
for we were not spending another night alone.

When I remember you and our time spent,
it's not the money, the places, surely not the romance.....
It's of the way I felt inside, the way you made my heart dance.

Now, I'm miles and miles away trying to move forward in life,
searching for more than friendship, but I can't be his wife....

If it means leaving you behind, even as a friend,
to go on and find more,
then I'll take the memories and leave love here at the seashore...

Nice memory of your friend. The poem was nice.
