Another Year

Another Year
~~~~
Ive walked this grassy path
Many times in the past few years
With a pit in my stomach
And eyes full of tears
Its a difficult walk for me
Each time its just the same
Until I reach that set stone
Thats carved with your name
Ive come out after work
Just to spend sometime alone
Silent moments between father and son
Before I head on home
Yet today its especially hard
As I count another year
That Ill wish you happy birthday
While knowing that youre not here
Ive planted some flowers for the occasion
I hope you enjoy their beautiful smell
I going to try and force a smile
Though Im not sure I know how
Happy Birthday, Dad
