The Apartment Building

Contributed by Blu on Wednesday, 8th June 2005 @ 12:51:53 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

I stand out front,
the side walk beneath my shoes
snaking like so many pythons
into the urban jungle
that I am lost in.

Sun glints off of its glass doors.
I stare at the elevator
opening like a mouth
to take me or crush me
or elevate me into a higher form of self.

Its brick reaches into divinity
and I know he is there
staring down on me.
He who has a face and a name.
He who has taken from me
as I took from him.

This being, this...building
stands sentry to a night
embraced by the fluid breeze
rushing in from the water front.

It keeps those who I have seen in dreams,
those who are urban myths
yet real in my eyes.

Rain steals across its rich facade
and warmth pours from one window
like a fire into this night.

And though I feel the heat,
I know it is not meant for my face.
And I turn it, shamed but not tear stained.
No, never stained.
For that well dried up nights ago.

And the keeper of this building-
yes, that lofty angel-
knows also.
That I am the visionary
(though I have been called the villain)
who must die in the end.

So I give up my vigilant watch.
And though I am lost in this flood,
for a moment
I think I am home.

Wow, I loved it.
You are so exceptionally talented
at capturing the emotion you're feeling
and then transforming it into the written word
in such a way that it allows the reader
to feel that emotion as well.

Great write as always!

Kayan

That was very cool. Very interesting and different to read. Which is
awesome. I really like how you ended it. And how some lines seem
so foreign in comparison to the rest of the stanza it's in yet suits it
very well. Awesome write!
