What it feels like to get burned

Contributed by c2b6s on Friday, 10th June 2005 @ 11:34:33 AM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

I've poured my heart out onto paper
I'll pour it again onto this screen
But nothing i say will change the fact
That I believed everything you didn't mean

I was really just a drunken mistake
I doubt the same mistakes are made three times
I know you couldn't have lied to me
When you said you couldn't get me off your mind

But you did, and you're the reason i can't sleep
Am I still there when you go to bed at night
I had a conversation with your bestfriend
He said you didn't know that what you're doing isn't right.

He told me you didn't mean to be a player
That I was into it and you weren't
Does that mean I should forgive you
I wish you knew what it felt like to get burned

This wound is still so open
I pretend that i'm perfectly fine
But you don't understand how it feels
To know you never even wanted to be mine

Have you ever been used before?
I hope someday you meet your match
I hate to say it but I loved you
Now not only have I lost my best friend
but I lost my other half

Oh wow, I have been there....Couldn't have put it into words better myself. Such simplicity, which works in this. I have a tendency of using far off ideas and symbolism to explain these kinds of feelings, and that tends to confuse people. Great work!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
