Running II

Starting to get tired, with no place to lay.
Best to keep moving, safer to sleep in the day.
I picked up the phone decided to call.
Her boyfriend always answers, and she's never home.
I thought he would let me, my birthday's today.
Thirteen on the street, last night getting raped.
I don't care anymore not this time.
Soon his day is coming, revenge will be mine.
Atop an old building I scream out in vain.
The drugs that I take, stopped killing the pain.
Staring into the darkness and down at the street.
Ending it all in just one small leap.

I go back inside, kneeling down on the floor.
I used up my tears, just the night before.
Is somebody in here, hearing something move.
A rat no less, stealing my food.
How much longer will I have to wait.
To be back home where its warm and safe.
I could see his face, he'd sure be upset.
Me coming home, with my new found pet.

Like cracks in the pavement, strange faces appear.
So desperate, wide eyed, tender faces of fear.
I showed you the ropes, but you wouldn't listen.
You just had to trust everyone, not a streetwise decision.
Little Jeremy I'm sorry, when I left you alone.
I thought for sure, that you'd return home.
You were too young and fragile, for life on the street.
I should have taught you better, but no one taught me.
It's something I live with, each and every day.
When I lose the game, I to will pay.

A lifer approaches, a friend to be.
First thing his name and arm around me.
Hey where you going, got a place to stay.
He works for a wolf in finding new prey.
Another roll of the dice to continue the game.
Just lucky I guess, alive to play another day.
O'l snake eyes are come'n, its been almost a year.
Wonder what I'll get, as my birthday is near.
I wonder how much longer, it will take for me.
Like Jeremy stripped naked, lying mangled on the street.
Dear little brother, we'll soon be together, each no longer alone.
If I'm not, sent to hell, for thinking you'd return home.

How sad. So sorry.
