Old Thoughts

Almost three years has past Since I drove my ass To the beach That has allowed me to retreat From where I grew, here I flew Because I knew I couldn't grow unless I know I can do it on my own. By myself, always alone, always prone To distemperment, compliments are thrown Towards my face, but I rest in my space. I don't need no drama, My mama gave me enough. But I trust in myself and it will always be rough. I grew a little today, it will be okay Because I can conquer it all Without being tall, I'm still unable to fall. Even if you shove me down, I'll pick my own ass off the ground And you won't be around To see the aftermath, you're in the past. Alas, I want you near, but I fear When you are close because you pose Around everyone else. Be yourself.

Great poem. It sounds like you learned alot from that experience. |
