Hello?

Contributed by Spike on Sunday, 16th November 2008 @ 12:36:00 AM in AEST
Topic: poets

Who will read my poetry
when I no longer write,
or whisper me in elegy
when Im embraced by night?

Will you quote me in choice snippets
or recite me out in full
ponder all my subtleties,
or remember not at all?

Will you scoff at my pretensions
my weak attempts to sing;
share with friends and lovers
all the long meanderings

Who will read my poetry
when I am long, long gone;
dust inside my funeral shroud
but verses strong and warm?

Who, you ask...?

I will.

Fantastic verse and wording. Very impacting. Great job, as always, my friend.

Be well,
Loende

You ask who dear poet?

I am going to say what everyone else is likely to say. So I apologize for the being the first to repeat what will be repeated throughout these comments. I sir will read you and quote you when you stop writing. I sir, will find it a sad day when you pass from this life, but in my heart those words I have read are eternal and so in my mind you will be.

Will you scoff at my pretensions?

I must say this vulnerability in that question is striking. Every poet, every artist is pretentious to some degree (some more than others). No sir poet, how can we pretentious cursed things dare mock you. You share are curses as well as our idiosyncrasies. I don't think we'll be mocking you today nor any day.

You are a fantastic writer and this poem goes there with your greatest works. It is deeply and profoundly short and powerful!

All that shall fall from those who have read and admired your work is your hand and your muse. Though, may I inform you that soon you will have a chance to see the truth of a poet and the truth of all things. We, our words, our souls, and even our muse are infinite.

SUPERB!

SCM

Your question is profound; your answer, self-evident. Whoever you want to read it, whoever your words move, whoever your emotions strike home to, will be the ones to remember, recite, review your poetry.

The real question, then, is if in your poetry, you live on.

i love it. thank you for putting this in better words then i could. =]

Oh my goodness this is such a moving write.
I oft think we all ponder these same questions.
Well to answer I will follow along I will also!.
There are those who appreciate the written word and the artist and those who do not, boy is it such a loss for those who do not appreciate the words, the talent but most important the poets heart behind it all right?
Lovely work as always.

Hugs and a kiss on the cheek
Tosses a daisy too

I've thought exactly the same thing. Nicely done.
