Just the Whiskey Talkin

Contributed by kaysea on Thursday, 26th March 2009 @ 03:01:38 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I remember when I met you
And the feelings that it brought
Falling hard, Deep in love
And daily thankin' God

How I was so lucky
What did I do to deserve this man
I had met my soul-mate
giving myself, all to you, with everything I had

I thought the feeling was mutual
Thought that you felt the same
Took me to long to realize
I was just a pawn in your stupid game

Treat her like a princess
Make her whole world feel complete
Give her a couple of babies
Put her in a place she knows she can't leave

Then slowly you start creeping out
The man you've always been
Can't hide your secrets anymore
Sorry babe I drank to much again

I didn't mean what I said
I know your not a whore
It was just the whiskey talkin
Now step back so I can drink some more

What was a few times a week
Now is every day
A half assed hungover I'm sorry
Wont make it go away

You had taken away the me I knew
The one I was proud to be
left in its place a broken soul
Who'd give anything to just be free

You tell yourself you've won
We are right where you want us to be
All to scared to make a move
You know we'll never leave

You think you've broke me down
Showed me I don't deserve nothing more
But every broken promise and hurtful word
Is giving me a secret strength to push me out the door

Ive watched and learned how to play your game
And here is where the twist comes in
The broken girl that stands before you
Is about to give you a dose of your own medicine

See I made a promise to our babies
After you kicked my ass and passed out on the floor
I wiped their tears And held them tight
Promised them with all I had We wont live like this anymore

We've all known this little secret
The plans made behind your back
You not knowing your giving us our secret stash
Doing anything needed to cover our tracks

So baby when you wake up
Take that drink to get your head out of the fog
I want you to be fully aware
As you look around and realize we are gone

You see those babies you used to control me
Deserve all the good there is in this world
And now I know I am the only one to give it
This fat stupid ugly girl

As you look around our empty house
and try to catch your breath
Please know we'll find someone to love us right
As you drink yourself to death

I've never understood what goes through the mind of a drinker.
Maybe those people don't understand their own minds, yet they seem compelled to bully other people into submission of their will.
It's a shame you didn't know the real person beforehand.
Good write

Steve

well said! a man should never choose the bottle over his wife and children. the bottle is where he hides from his responsibility, where he drowns in his own shame. an alcoholic can only have so many chances before you have to say 'sorry buster, time's up'. a passionate, frank, honest, powerful piece of writing, great work!

I have tears now streaming down my face.
I know this and understand it, and I am so so sorry that you are in this situation, or not by the way the poem read, good for you, it takes so much to get up and leave, I understand that too.......

Incredible write, and so emotional.
If you ever need anyone to chat at feel free. I will be here without judgement for I lived this life, and then there were drugs added in the mix too so I understand you.

Hugs you long
Michelle

that was so deep, and if it is true, i hope with all my heart that you are set free. please have the strength to carry through, if not for yourself, for your children.
like someone else said, i will also be here to chat with you if you need it. as will many people. you are not alone. and forget WHAT you said, HOW you said it was wonderful.
that was a powerful, beautiful write
and i have the deepest respect for you because of the way you wrote your pain
good luck
God bless you :)

I can totally relate to this. The father of my children is an alcaholic.
He don't drink now but ya never know when they'll fall off the wagon.
We've been divorced for years and he lives close now but he still sits and wonders why our children want spend much time around him. He lives in the same town now.
Good work and leaving is the best thing you could do, take your kids and leave him in the dust.
They say alcaholism is a diease but there's nothing that says you have to put up with his disease.
Luv, huggs, blessings, inner healing ,
emy
