Twelve Today

Contributed by dvtpdw on Monday, 12th March 2012 @ 12:36:46 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

Sitting here on the side of the hill
Watching him riding his new dirt bike
His 12th birthday gift from Grandpa Bill
Clear how he and his grandpas are alike

He struggles at first, new to a clutch
He falls over, gets a scrape or two
Listens to guidance, not liking it much
Determined he'll soon learn what to do

Wait, look, he's off, I'm not dreaming
Happiness and joy shine in his eyes
Round and round he goes, face beaming
His body straight with pride, no disguise

He's gaining years; no way I can halt it
My baby boy's now a wondrous young man
Growing up faster than his clothes even fit
Time to step back, let go of his hand

Forever he'll be my grandson, my love
He's smart, funny with a heart of gold
I'm here to guide him with help from above
Can't wait for the treasures his future holds

This is beautiful. I know he will cherish it a life time.
It's really great to have you two, I'm sure.
Great write but then you've always been a great writer.
Bigg huggs, Blessings,
