His Smile

Contributed by Elizabeth_Dandy on Monday, 11th July 2005 @ 01:44:59 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

I pushed the shopping cart with my right hand
My coat had slipped, and trailed upon the ground;
Hair straggled out beneath a rubber band,
My plaster casts worn sling was badly bound.

Some lady neared and with a quick deft twist
Threaded the button holes with twine and string
Then raised the sling that held my broken wrist
And draped my coat so it would stay and cling,
And in her luminous eyes I recognized
The sympathetic loving eyes of Christ.

Before our building a construction team
By a young Nicaraguan supervised,
To let me safely pass raised up a beam;
Their garb was smelly. stained and oversized
They smiled - and I had seen the smile of Christ.

Elizabeth dear, this reminds me of what Jesus said, "By these man's actions you will be able to identify them. And now you have taken that for a slight twist. To see him in all of these different individuals. What a wonderful positive outlook with spiritual tones you have. This is just simply awesome.
I have felt this way many times. To see a kindness in another's eyes, or a courage gesture reminding me of his courage......
I really enjoyed this poem ED, and always learn so much
Thank you for sharing
Warm love
consue
