A Letter to Uncle

A Letter to Uncle

Dear Uncle,

Where are you?
The Children are here.
Do you not recognize us?
Youve left us to this baron plot.
Have you forgotten the children?

Footsteps placed once proudly
over fields, mountains, and plains.
Fished ponds, lakes, and streams
Flowered meadows roamed freely.
Now mother sighs with disbelief.

The howls of wolves and crash of thunder
Do you hear that? It is gone
What left but voices of doves?
A whimper in the chilled night air.
Where are you Uncle?

Gazed eyes, stared and teared,
looked beyond all stars.
Through heavens, universe and hells,
time marked by pounding hearts.
But still ancestral eyes keep watch.

Spirits borne like flight of eagles,
on our mothers breath soars high.
Steadfastly we remain as one,
proud people to the last.
Where are you Uncle?

Youve taken all that you could,
our land and our homes.
And placed us on this confine
because you know whats best.
But our spirit cannot be broken.

We do not belong to you Uncle.
For we belong to mother.
Who are we?
We know who we are.
You cant take that.

Wow ZiggyB!! Very powerful. You give the impression that you have reason to be angry but that you are better than that and have no recentment but victory in knowing who you are. Awesome!

I would love to re-read this poem when you rewrite it.
The imagery is so strong and almost overpowering. I hope your spirit is never broken for if it is, you will lose so much.
