Coming out

Contributed by Cryptiss on Monday, 8th November 2010 @ 11:20:55 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I reach out to those around me
with so much fear and anxiety
Will they hate me,
not accept me
disown me for truly being me
Will I be the outcast
more than I already am
I need to get the creature out of me
That has been haunting me for so long
kill the creature inside me that has been attempting to kill me
kill the creature inside of me so I can truly be free to be me
All these things went through my head
And so I sucked it up
I gathered up the strength
I figured if they don’t accept me
then that is their choice to make
Mom, Mikey, Gram and everyone else
I am a lesbian!
I said it loud and proud
And finally said it right out loud
I realized I must be true to myself
I must live the way I was meant to live
And stop hiding from the truth.
No more shadows in my mind
no more closets to hide inside
I am me and that is all
Love me or hate me
I am just me
and that is all I will ever be
I found almost everyone
accepted me for the person that I am
But every day is a struggle
walking through this heartless land
There is to much hate
Instead of love
Too much push and shove
And if you tell me I am going to hell
because of who I am
I would rather be in a hell
than in a heartless land
But I believe that God
or whoever is up there somewhere
will not shun people for being people
I have done nothing wrong
And live each day to help others
I never judge
and always lend a helping hand
So if none of that matters
and I am going to hell anyway
because I am gay
I would rather
live each day
knowing I put a smile on someone’s face
and not perching hate
I would rather
make someone’s day
than shove them away
I will embrace the rainbow
each and every day
Because everyone guess
what, I am gay!
And I am here to stay!
