And He Tried

Contributed by eternityslyre on Thursday, 28th June 2018 @ 06:15:52 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

And he tried to love
The families, whose love
Looked all too much like resentment
And did not reach beyond their own

And he tried to forgive
The sinners, whose forgiveness
Was all too much like indulgence
And did not extend to all

And he tried to believe in
The righteous, whose beliefs
Felt all too much like rationalization
And broke, and bent,
But could not come full circle.
And in the lightless waking
As his heart unraveled
In ways his mind could no longer mend,

He tried to see the good in people,
In people who wrought cruelty as love,
In people who sought power over forgiveness,
In people who fought truth for belief,
And he tried,

And he //tried//.

Cool poem. I feel the frustration in your words. If you read any of my humble offerings, you will see the same thought content.

This poem reminds me of a book I rad 20+ years ago called /'/The Unbearable Lightness of Being". It has the same flavor.....like dark cobbled streets just after a night rain.

I dig.

a valiant thing to try to do.... up to a point. it/'/s important to know where your boundaries are and when it/'/s a lost cause and a waste of your energies. nice write.
