Topic: anguished

A thousand painful memories
And their receipts
Stuck together
Like a failed papier mache rock
Dense, heavy, dark
I cannot seem to put it down
And the original owners
Will not take it back

It came from when
I used to crawl
Into their empty bed
Breathe in the heirloom quilts
And cry until the end of the line
Until my throat is so sore
The big heaving breaths hurt
Until my eyelids
Are so tired they close
Maybe they will heal
Back together
So I will never have to see again

I fell asleep
With my own raindrops
Still drying on my skin
Until my face
Felt enmeshed in the pillow
Like it was there
For solidarity

I had it when I tried
To throw it back in your face
To tell you calmly
You have repeated your trauma
And you failed to protect me
Until I could not tell you calmly

It came with me
Even when I did not
Have room to pack it
When I ran away
And never looked back
Because I would wake up
Someplace different every day
That was the price of freedom

Mostly it is less heavy now
As I never feel alone
But every now and then
When I feel like
The jig is up
I kick hard off the pool wall
Convinced my hurt and I
Have been found out
For who we are
And we will be evicted
So I have to start again
As someone else
And try
Not to make her so
This time

Man, I would love this opportunity:

"Have been found out
For who we are
And we will be evicted
So I have to start again
As someone else
And try
Not to make her so
This time"

Your poetry is golden. You turn pain into beauty, and that is quite an accomplishment.

Highest regards, Aurelia.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
