Topic: true

Footsteps, light and hesitant, shuffling down the stairs. Who could it be? If I listen very closely I can hear small, whispering voices, taking care not to rise to the crescendo that I have become accustomed to hearing. It's early in the morning, they want to let Daddy sleep. Three little bodies, three small copies of myself carefully lay down beside me, making sure not to disturb me. " Don't step on him you'll wake him up," I hear one of them say. To no avail, I've already been stepped on. For a few minutes there is no movement, no sound at all. Then suddenly I hear a quiet plea, "Daddy, can we watch cartoons?" Lay still, don't let them know you're awake I tell my self, but it's no use. They have held themselves in check as long as they can. I open my eyes and behold the three precious gifts that God has given to me. My children, my little girls.
Through this day, as through our lives, we will share laughter, anger and tears. Even though at times I think that the unending questions of "How does it do that?" and "Why Daddy?" will send me to the local mental ward, I keep in mind the love I have for them, and they for me. I realize how empty life would be without these three small bodies.
At the end of yet another day together, we will all express our undying love for one another. All of the scolding, all of the arguments are forgotten. Three big kisses, three big hugs...I love you my babies....we love you too Daddy, you're my sweetheart and my friend. You're mine too I tell them.
Six little eyes closed, three little minds full of the experiences of another day of life, now dreaming the sweet dreams that only children are allowed to have. Until tomorrow morning when I will hear footsteps, light and hesitant shuffling down the stairs. I wonder, Who could it be?

I've always said you're a great dad, my friend, even if you aren't the most patient man in the world LOL. This is so sweet and certainly bears witness to the fact that men have a very nurturing side.

Wow dad! That made me cry! That was a very sweet poem. I don't think I remember you ever reading that to us when we were little. I do remember the days when we would get things on our own so we didn't have to wake you up, but then you'd come down stairs to a big mess of korn flakes all over the counter and floor. OH those were the good days. I can't wait to see what Chloe will be like. I love you so much dad. This poem means a lot to me.
I love you
Kat

There is no greater love in this world than a parent's love for their children (except maybe their grandchildren, lol). This is a beautifully loving piece, Larry.

Ahhh larry such sweetness

'Golden gifts from heaven skies,
Wondered questions, ever why,
Gentle whispers, Footsteps sweet,
When eyes of father and children meet'

Writings like this make me look forward to the day when somone will call me father, and maybe if i am a good father, i might be called 'daddy', like yourself

As the saying goes my friend

'Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy'

How that saying is shown true here

Barkeep! A glass of your finest

Luke

Ten years later and I'll bet your feelings have not changed. I only have one and she just turned 34. Still the best thing that ever happened to me.

Thank you for an enjoyable read.
