Forgotten Dreams

I have wondered so many times:
"The stars up there, what are they, do they have lives?
Why are they so many?
And why can't we reach any?

I asked an old man to tell me.
He never answered. He just looked at me wierd like i was crazy.
Then i asked a lady.
"The stars?" she said in melancholy.
Just those words, then she stood frozen.
Thinking about something for a moment.
A bitter smile came from her mouth
and a tear from her eyes slowly fell down.
She apologized and left in a hurry.
What could i have said to cause such worry?
But i knew she had something to say.
The answer was there, written on her face.
But she kept it inside, maybe cause of shame.
I'll never know, she left without leaving a trace.

A man then came to me and said,
that the answer to my question he had:
"The stars are nothing else but small rocks.
They might shine, but that's from the rays of the sun.
It,s wasted time all this you ask.
cause nobody cares to answer a question like that."
"Nobody cares?" I asked out loud
as i saw the man disappear in the crowd.
i felt pain running through my chest
cause no one was willing to answer to my request.

Just then a child came and sat by my side
"The reason they're so many stars in the sky
and unable to be reached it seems.
It's because they are people's forgotten dreams."
Only this he spoke and went away
as i looked at the crowd, they had nothing to say.
they just stared at the floor, with guilt in their eyes.
seems their silence agreed with this all this time.
I then understood that the child was right.
Growing up we forget the true meaning of life.
