The Day After I Died

Contributed by unknown_utopia on Tuesday, 10th October 2017 @ 12:40:06 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

The day after i died
nothing changed
everything remained the same
I was still in pain

family and friends gather round
even the haters view my body now
young ones looking at the casket
wondering how the legend lost his magic
feeling oh so tragic

I remember being ignored
always wanting more
never getting what I was needing
self medicating was the only way I could endure

in and out of love
never realizing love is a drug
getting kissed by poison lips
demons feeding off my blood

now as I am on the outside looking in
I see all things I should have been doing
but
the seeds of the lie planted in my mind
from the day I was born had made me blind

I can still remember all the wrong did to me
thorns of Illusion killing the thrill I seek
If I am still dwelling on bad memories
how the hell am I suppose to rest in peace.

this is super relateable. and I love the stanza about love. even the line "in and out of love" - it/'/s so simple but so hard hitting. and "thorns of Illusion killing the thrill I seek" is a great line too. well done!

We never get to see the world from this perspective! You took on quite a challenge and described your thoughts about it well!
But my absolute favorite line is HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO REST IN PEACE?
That would make a great tombstone. It sure makes a great ending to your poem!

This is a great excuse for 6 month checkups.
Death appears not to offer any relief after all.
What a great read...

What a great way of exploring the ever troubled mind, " even the haters view my body now! The seeking of elusive, "peace of mind,"and challenging thoughts with that powerful challenge at the end, " how the hell am I suppose to rest in peace. I can entirely relate to your words.

this is, tough. I know a handsome young boy who was smart and athletic, and had it all, everybody thought.
Then, jubilant one day, more than usual, he shot himself and went away.
The world was just exactly the same the next day.
And a few days later we, his family and friends
walked by his casket.
You know, people came from all over the country,
just to be with his parents, and the family.
No one saw it coming.
The world is exactly the same, one might say.
But that would be wrong.
Because it/'/s far far from True!
The grieving is just beginning to set in.

All the things this absolutely beautiful kid will never
do. He was kind, sweet, smart, possibly even brilliant.
Beyond compare.

Peace!

Now this is something to think about!

I/'/ve never thought about life/death like that, but it sure makes a new perspective to both sides.
- The last part really got me

Thanks for sharing such an enlightened yet dark poem.

Nice write!
