Bystander

As the blade
Laid down her arm
Skinny and twelve
But ready to die
You just stood there

As he beat him down
And called the cops
As if his son
Were the aggressor
And listened
With some sick pleasure
At the police scanner
As they approached
And you just stood there

As she had somehow
Made it to seventeen
And CPS came
To tell her
They could not help
He should just try harder
To be better
And you,
You just stand there

When you picked her up
From the psych ward
And did not even care
To look for the knives
And pills in her drawers
Her friends saved her from
This time

But you asked her why
So with nothing left to lose
She told you
You married your father
And instead of that
Waking you
With a slap
You just stood there

As he threw a knife
At you
For not bringing the butter
To the table
Or when he broke a shelf
From slamming the door
Too hard again
You just stood there

I do not think
You have done anything wrong
You said
Even when he fled the house
Knowing he crossed a line

Do not worry
I will get her to trust me
And tell her to behave
Until she stops talking again
You said
When you thought she was asleep

From all the times
You just stood there
And all the times
They wished
That was worst thing
You had done

They hope
You rot
In hell

All
By
Yourself

Come un bambino in una situazione così terribile non c/'/è speranza. Nessuno ti sente piangere, nemmeno se ne importa. Non vogliono essere coinvolti e chiudere un occhio. Non è un posto dove vivere, ma si scrive così bene.
